Cheap Weights in Toronto: How to Get Dumbbells and Plates Without Overpaying

Weights don't have to be expensive. Most people overpay because they buy whatever shows up first online, pay for shipping on something that weighs 100 lb, or buy a full set when they only needed three pairs. Here's how to keep the cost down.

Know what a good price looks like

Always work out the price per pound. It's the only fair way to compare a set, a single dumbbell and a Marketplace listing. For reference, here's what we charge (as of October 2026):

If a listing works out much higher than that for the same kind of weight, keep looking.

New or used?

Used weights on Kijiji or Facebook Marketplace can be cheap, sometimes well under a dollar a pound. Iron doesn't wear out, so a used cast iron plate is still a cast iron plate. The catch is everything around the price:

  • You usually get whatever sizes someone is selling, not the ones you need.
  • Rubber can be cracked or peeling, and dumbbell heads can be loose.
  • You have to drive across the city to pick up a few hundred pounds.

When new cast iron is $1 a pound, the gap is often smaller than people expect. We wrote a quick checklist for used dumbbells in our Toronto dumbbell buying guide.

Buy only what you'll use

The cheapest weight is the one you don't buy. Three pairs of dumbbells (a light, a medium and a heavy) cover a full body workout. A pair each of 10, 15 and 25 lb hex dumbbells costs $110. Add heavier ones later, once you actually need them. Our guide to what weight dumbbells to buy goes through it.

Bundles bring the price per pound down

Once you know you'll keep training, a bundle usually beats buying pairs one by one. The 5 to 50 lb hex bundle works out to about $1.05 per pound, compared with $1.10 buying the same dumbbells separately. See all our bundle deals.

Check the clearance section

We keep a clearance section for end-of-line stock, odd sizes and accessories. Things like PVC dumbbells, urethane plates, resistance bands and cable handles end up there. It changes, so it's worth checking before you buy.

Skip the shipping

Weights are heavy, and shipping a few hundred pounds adds up fast. Buying local and picking up yourself saves that cost. You can order online and choose in-store pickup, or walk in any day from 11am to 8pm. If you can't pick up, we do local delivery across the GTA. Call or text for a quote.

Common questions

What's the cheapest way to get weights in Toronto?

Buy cast iron plates or a few pairs of dumbbells, compare everything by price per pound, and pick up locally so you don't pay for shipping.

How much should weights cost per pound?

It depends on the type. Our cast iron plates are $1 per pound and our rubber hex dumbbells are $1.10 per pound, which is a useful benchmark when you compare.

Are cheap dumbbells worth it?

Cheap is fine as long as the dumbbell is solid. Check that the heads don't move and the handle grip is good. PVC dumbbells are a good low-cost option for lighter weights.
